When Shah Rukh Khan speaks, you look up and listen. Even those who are not a fan of SRK’s acting or movies, cannot deny that they admire his oratory skills. Shah Rukh Khan is back on the small screen! As you know Shah Rukh Khan had begun his cinematic journey from the idiot box to be one of the biggest superstars in Bollywood. But he has never forgotten the medium from where he had started before.
So who better than him then, to host TED Talks India, a show that aims at inspiring people, touching their lives and changing it for the better through some inspiring stories? However, this time around, he is not the one talking! The superstar takes a back seat to introduce us to some of the most amazing personalities, who are doing their small, innovative bit to make the world we live in a better place. The first episode was aired yesterday on Star Plus at 7 pm.
Here are the inspiring personalities who shared their extremely inspiring life work on this platform.
Dr Gautam Bhan
The human settlement expert and researcher talked about how people from small town migrate to big cities and make bastis or settlements that the governments sees as detrimental to the cities development.
The scientist and bio-engineer spoke about how medical treatment can reach the remotest areas anywhere in the world and how there can be cheap, man made, ready options that can replace some of the most expensive medical devices and make medical treatment affordable for many.
That was followed by a performance by music director Sneha Khanwalkar.
The industrial engineer and eco-entrepreneur’s solution to make our cities green again and create forests right in the middle of our concrete jungles, with space less than that used for parking six cars and with investment less than the cost of the latest I-phone is truly inspirational.
That was followed by a talk on the importance of bringing up children in a gender-neutral fashion, especially in our patriarchal Indian society by Manju Kapoor. The Delhi-based novelist who’s work ‘Custody’ is turned into a popular show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein touched upon how
we need to change the way we bring up our girls and boys in a family setup to change the basic fabric of the society.
The next speaker Anirudh Sharma, spoke about his invention which turns exhaust from cars into usable ink — before it enters the atmosphere. This Boston-returned innovator will make you see the problem of pollution in a different light. To the effect that you will not get panic attacks reading about the pollution levels in your city.
After a really inspiring first episode, where innovative ideas, which can make the world a better place, took the center-stage, we certainly look forward to get inspired by many such episodes of Ted talks, hosted by none other that the man himself, Shah Rukh Khan. The episodes are available on Hotstar.
